The year 2021 is about to end in a couple of days and all we can do now is take a moment to look back at all the things that made this year epic. While there were many things the got highlighted the most this year, our eating habits have recently made headlines.
Swiggy‘s Sixth StatEATstics Report was published and it showed that Indians ordered 115 Biryanis per minute. The report also stated that we ordered samosas equal to the population of New Zealand, and enough tomatoes to play the Spanish Tomatina festival for eleven years.

Chicken biryani was the star of biryanis with 4.3 times more orders than its vegetarian counterpart, ‘pulao‘. It was stated that nearly 4.25 lakh customers debuted on Swiggy by ordering a chicken biryani.
Samosas became the most binged snack of the year with about 5 million orders on Swiggy followed by everyone’s favorite pav bhaji that received 2.1 million orders, as per StatEATstics.
As for desserts, Gulab Jamun and Rasmalai were the most ordered and second ordered desserts, respectively in 2021 on Swiggy.
Collectively, many states had were seen ordering more healthier food options. Chicken biryani topped the charts in Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Hyderabad, Mumbai ordered twice as many Dal Khichidis comparatively.
Bengaluru emerged as the most health-conscious city, followed by Hyderabad and Mumbai. As per the data, Keto orders grew by 23%, and a nearly 83% surge in vegan and plant-based food orders was also seen this year.
As expected, Delhi’s most ordered dish was Dal Makhani, and we could have guessed it already.
