| Published on June 30, 2022

Think German-made cars, and the first name that comes to mind is BMW! What started as an airplane engine manufacturer, it has today become a well-known luxury auto brand. While initially, the company set records for altitude and speed in aviation, it is now making the right waves in the auto industry with a series of bikes and cars ranging from X1 to M8.

Originally named Bayerische Flugzeugwerke or “BFW,” meaning Bavarian plane manufacturing, the company changed its name to Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) in 1917, and its iconic blue and white logo design is actually a tribute to its Bavarian roots.

Though the company is more than 100 years old, it still continues to produce parts for many of its vehicles dating back to the World War II era. The company follows a simple structure and owns 4 unique brands.

1. BMW Motorrad

Producing motorcycles since 1923, BMW Motorrad motorcycles are categorized into six product families, and each family is assigned an alphabetical prefix.

Product families include C-series, called urban mobility vehicles, F-series with parallel-twin engines, G-series with a single-cylinder engine, R-series with twin-cylinder boxer engines, K-series with straight-six engines, and S-series with inline-four engines.

BMW Motorrad motorcycles have also won the Dakar Rally six times.

2. BMW

Headquartered in Munich, BMW’s current model lines include sedans, hatchbacks, and coupes from series 1 to 8. They also have X series SUVs and crossovers, along with two-door roadsters in the Z -series.

Along with these, it has electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles, which are up for sale under the BMWi brand, as well as the BMW series.

3. Rolls-Royce

The British luxury car Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the BMW Group. The brand that exudes the epitome of luxury, each of its vehicles is crafted with meticulous detail and craftsmanship.

Current vehicles from its camp include Phantom, Wraith, and Cullinan along with concept vehicles like Rolls-Royce Hyperion, Rolls-Royce Boat Tail, Rolls-Royce 100EX to 103EX

4. Mini Cooper

In 1969, the MINI brand was started and produced by the Rover Group. In 2001, the BMW MINI Cooper was introduced to the world.

With a total transformation under BMW, the Mini Cooper includes cars like MINI Hardtop 2 Door, MINI Hardtop 4 Door, MINI Countryman, MINI Clubman, MINI Convertible, and John Cooper Works along with its iconic two-door hatchback.

While all BMW vehicles are dedicated to the driver, it is one of the most sought-after car brands in the world. Their power-to-weight ratio makes it one of the speediest cars in the world. And German technology and engineering clubbed with specialty parts, makes it an expensive one.

Nonetheless, there are many takers for BMW cars and bikes, which gives its owner a sense of accomplishment and thrill.
