Brands That Went Viral Due To ‘Movie Marketing’

We are the movies and the movies are us,” well known US film critic David Ansen had said to highlight the key role that movies play in the people’s lives. And it couldn’t be truer in case of Indians, who live and breathe cinema. This is reflected in the number of films released in the country every year across language and genres. And not only Bollywood, but Hollywood as well is running as fast in this brand marketing race.

Time and again movies have set trends over the years. Fans know no length, if they see something in the movie they like, they want it. Whether it’s the attire of their inspiring actor or the accessories of their favourite actress, they want to buy it. The reason why the demand for a product instantly rises, the moment it has been spotted in a blockbuster.

Here, are a few legit examples of ‘movie’ marketing by brands:

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai – GAP

The evergreen movie – KKHH, is a perfect fairy tale for the 90’s. It was a love triangle between three college students. None of us will ever forget Srk’s crazy character and ofcourse the orange GAP Hoodie! After the movie, GAP gained what some would call, a cult of following.

To all the boys I’ve loved Before – Yakult

In the time since Netflix released the hit teen drama – To all the boys I’ve loved before, already amassed the fans worldwide and established itself as a classic in the teen rom-com genre.

The character – TATBILB has even majorly upped the sales of a product that features in it. Yakult, to be precise.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S – Athleisure (Rachel Green)

Rachel Green was the resident fashion girl of f.r.i.e.n.d.s throughout the series. It’s no surprise then that Rachel Green outfits are as relevant as ever. She had set the trends that are still running, most foremost being athleisure and her outfits are still the G- Thing.

The movie Koi Mil Gaya is not only famous for the alien ‘Jaadu’ and good boy ‘Rohit’ but also famous for the Rohit’s favourite healthy drink – Bournvita. We can’t deny, that no one has ever promoted Bournvita better than the movie – Koi Milgaya

Shahenshah – Black Dog

One of the finest examples of brand placement has been set by Amrish Puri.

The Black-dog dialogue has managed to get the product flying off the shelves and how.

Top Gun- Ray Ban Aviator

Tom Cruise as ‘Pete’ redefined the Ray-Ban Aviator in his military attire. This dashing look made the youth daydreaming about this aviator

Tamasha – social

The movie with lots of emotional scenes, have cleverly placed ‘Social’ in the storyline and paved path for transition course and gained fame.
