“We are the movies and the movies are us,” well known US film critic David Ansen had said to highlight the key role that movies play in the people’s lives. And it couldn’t be truer in case of Indians, who live and breathe cinema. This is reflected in the number of films released in the country every year across language and genres. And not only Bollywood, but Hollywood as well is running as fast in this brand marketing race.
Time and again movies have set trends over the years. Fans know no length, if they see something in the movie they like, they want it. Whether it’s the attire of their inspiring actor or the accessories of their favourite actress, they want to buy it. The reason why the demand for a product instantly rises, the moment it has been spotted in a blockbuster.
Here, are a few legit examples of ‘movie’ marketing by brands:
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai – GAP
The evergreen movie – KKHH, is a perfect fairy tale for the 90’s. It was a love triangle between three college students. None of us will ever forget Srk’s crazy character and ofcourse the orange GAP Hoodie! After the movie, GAP gained what some would call, a cult of following.
To all the boys I’ve loved Before – Yakult
In the time since Netflix released the hit teen drama – To all the boys I’ve loved before, already amassed the fans worldwide and established itself as a classic in the teen rom-com genre.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S – Athleisure (Rachel Green)
Rachel Green was the resident fashion girl of f.r.i.e.n.d.s throughout the series. It’s no surprise then that Rachel Green outfits are as relevant as ever. She had set the trends that are still running, most foremost being athleisure and her outfits are still the G- Thing.
Koi Mil Gaya – Bournvita
