Brand Sells Desi Kurtis As “Boho Dresses,” Gets Slammed For Cultural Appropriation

| Published on September 14, 2019

We all know about the fascination that Indian clothes brings to the world but recently a British brand conveniently renamed the desi dresses with the firangi names only to face a backlash on social media.

Thrifted.com, an online British clothing company who is also a top ASOS seller listed “Asian Salwar Kameez” as “Vintage Boho Dresses” came under the radar of Twitterati when a Twitter user found it and slammed it for cultural appropriation.

Twitter user @dxya_d tweeted, ““vintage boho dress????? girl u got on a damn kameez with no salwar”

Twitterati soon lost calm and trolled the brand-
