Apple Demands $1 Billion For Patent Infringement

| Published on May 17, 2018

Tech giant Appple Inc. has demanded $1 billion upon 3 design patents and 2 utility patents from Samsung. This case has been running for 8 years and Apple wants to close it after Samsung approves to give them the complete money for the loss they faced due to this infringement.

The US court has already declared Samsung as the guilty in this case and Samsung has already paid $548 million in installments but it’s the remaining $399 million that both companies are fighting over.

The argument about this case is that should Samsung have to pay fine for the whole device or just the components that were infringed? Samsung has only paid for the components whereas Apple is demanding the complete profit made from the devices.

In 2012, Apple was awarded $1.05 billion in damages, but it was denied by the company with a demand of $2.75 billion. After so many talks between these companies, $1 billion was to be paid by Samsung. In 2015, it was declared by the court that Samsung would have to pay Apple $548 million.

The argument of sharing complete profit is still on and Apple wants to close this case soon. Samsung, on the other hand, is denying to pay any additional money as the company has paid a huge amount already.
