| Published on August 24, 2019

Amazon‘s CEO, and the world’s richest man, Jeff Bezos, shared the first job ad which he posted 25 years ago. Bezos has shared this post on Instagram. The ad he shared was dated 22 Aug 1994, 25 years from today.

The ad was a job post for Bezos start-up company which is known as Amazon today. And at that particular time, he had not even finalized on the name of the company.

The ad listing read, “Well-capitalised start-up seeks extremely talented C/C++/Unix developers to help pioneer commerce on the internet.”

Bezos shared the ad with a caption stating, “I posted our first job opening 25 years ago today when I hadn’t even settled on the name Amazon yet. Feels like yesterday.”

An Amazon spokesperson has confirmed the authenticity of the job posting. They also informed that it was originally posted on Usenet, an early online public bulletin board and discussion network started in 1980.

The ad re-surfaced when Jon Erlichman, anchor at Bloomberg had shared it on Twitter on Wednesday morning.

Jeff Bezos‘s throwback picture has received over 75,000 likes since it was posted making it go viral in no time.

But everyone had the same question, ‘Who got the job?’

Moreover, people praised the journey Jeff Bezos has had ever since. Some called him legendary and their idol and some pointed out how he has come far from being a start-up entrepreneur to the richest man in the world.

According to Business Insider, the role was eventually filled by Shel Kaphan, who left Amazon after five years.

Back then, Jeff Bezos had just quit his well-paying Wall Street job to start an e-commerce company, which we all know was absolutely the best decision of his life.

Amazon is today the world’s most valuable, publicly-traded company which employs over 6 lakh people.
