As fans eagerly tune in to live streams and TV broadcasts, the world of advertising seizes the opportunity to shine. Brands view this grand event as the perfect canvas to weave captivating stories and showcase their identity.

As the competition heats up on the field, so does the ad showdown off the field. Brands from across the globe are vying for attention, painting a vibrant picture of talent and passion. With each ad adding a unique twist, it’s a treat to see how they creatively align with the World Cup theme.

In this article, we delve into some of the best ads from the tournament that embody the spirit of empowerment, teamwork, and inspiration.

1. Frito-Lay – “Taste of Greatness”

Frito-Lay’s latest ad falls short compared to their previous hit featuring David Beckham and Peyton Manning. In this new spot, a mom teaches her daughter about soccer using chips as animated players. While it highlights the sport’s history with legends like Mia Hamm and Abby Wambach, it feels a bit outdated and lacks the excitement of the previous ad. Crystal Dunn, a current player, is introduced 42 seconds into the ad, but the overall execution feels stale.

2. Coca-Cola – “Believing is Magic”

Coca-Cola, a long-time World Cup sponsor since 1978, has been a part of iconic tournament moments. In the 2010 World Cup, they collaborated with K’naan for “Wavin’ Flag” as the “Celebration Mix.” Now, for the 2023 tournament, Coca-Cola’s ad takes a nostalgic approach, showcasing childhood photos of players like Alex Morgan, Katie Bowen, and Ellie Carpenter, bringing smiles to fans worldwide.

3. Adidas – “Play Until They Can’t Look Away”

While Lionel Messi is often linked with adidas football, the brand also shines a spotlight on rising women’s soccer stars. In their vibrant ad, Germany’s Lena Oberdorf, England’s Alessia Russo, and Australia’s Mary Fowler take center stage, showcasing their skills alongside adidas’ stylish streetwear. The ad features appearances by Beckham and Jenna Ortega, celebrating soccer history in a whimsical and enjoyable way.

4. Team Orange Football – “The Crazy Actions of the France Team that we have all Forgotten”

At first, it appears to be an ad for the French men’s national team, showcasing Griezmann and Mbappé in action. However, a clever twist reveals that the stars of the show are actually the women’s national team, leaving viewers amazed and the ad going viral. Sakina Karchaoui’s skills mirror Griezmann’s, and Estelle Cascarino surprises as the 2022 Golden Boot winner. A captivating and well-executed campaign!

5. Nike – “What the Football”

Nike’s 2023 World Cup campaign features 11 ads, but the standout is “What The Football.” The heartwarming story follows a father who wakes up 24 years later to discover the current tournament. His daughter introduces him to star players like Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, and Ada Hegerberg. Set to Eve’s “Who’s That Girl?”, this ad is a must-see with its captivating narrative and top-notch soundtrack.

6. Volkswagen – “The Juggle” and “Nailed It”

Volkswagen’s FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 ads, “The Juggle” and “Nailed It,” creatively celebrate football and its players. American footballer Alyssa Thompson showcases her skills with the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, while Andi Sullivan and Ashley Hatch’s free-kick practice reveals the new Volkswagen Atlas. Both ads effectively promote the cars while highlighting the players’ talents, making them memorable and impactful.

7. Google Pixel #FixedOnPixel featuring Megan Rapinoe

Google Pixel’s FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 ad starring Megan Rapinoe stays true to the brand’s simplicity and effectiveness. Focused on the “Fixed On Pixel” campaign, it showcases the phone’s remarkable image processing capabilities. The addition of a childhood photo of Rapinoe adds a nostalgic touch, making the ad relatable and impactful.

8. Hyundai – “How Far We’ve Come”

Similar to the previous ad, Hyundai’s spot creates a captivating timeline of the sport. The seamless editing and expertly woven shots take viewers on a journey from soccer’s humble beginnings to its current place in pop culture. The ad’s impressive execution sets it apart, making it stand out from the rest.

Let’s celebrate the brilliance of these ads as we cheer for the teams on their journey to glory!
