Uber Lays Off 3,500 Employees Over A Simple Zoom Call

| Published on May 18, 2020

The coronavirus pandemic has affected our economy greatly. While some companies have benefitted with the increase in sales, others are having a hard time paying off their employees. Hence, they have started laying them off instead. The big taxi service giant, Uber, has apparently laid off at least 3,500 of its employees, that too over a Zoom video call session! If you think being fired is bad, this is even worse.

The laid-off employees counted for 14% of Uber’s workforce. All of this dramatically happened over a three-minute video call. The head of the customer service’s team, Ruffin Chaveleu, had to bring in the sad news. There was no notice. The decision was made very suddenly and the video below also sees Chaveleu having a weak moment as she admits it is tough to be on the other end and thanked everyone for their hard work and support.

And without any further ado, let us take you through the series of criticism the company faced because of its surprising and cold decision.

Some replies were ven delightful and of course, a lot of people saw it coming. They’re also expecting more companies to follow suit if this coronavirus outbreak spreads further.

Do you think this was a justified move made by Uber? Share your thoughts with us.
