It is not new that a lot of times, brand ambassadors wisely use rival’s products to endorse their own. And Robert Downey Jr. was also trapped in one such controversy.
OnePlus’ Brand Ambassador
Robert Downey Jr. was roped in by OnePlus to endorse the brand, earlier this year. He has been a part of the company’s new marketing campaigns. The reason for choosing him as the brand ambassador is his ideologies which are totally in sync with the ideologies of the brand, which focuses in minute details and for creating an exceptional experience for the users.
The Controversy
On July 30, Robert Downey Jr. reportedly used his Huawei P30 Pro instead of OnePlus 7, to promote his endorsed brand OnePlus 7 on Weibo, a Chinese social networking platform.
Many other actors and actresses have been caught using other brands of smartphones to promote their endorsed brand. Gal Gadot, the Wonder Woman actress, recently used her iPhone to promote her endorsed brand Huawei’s Mate 10 Pro. Actress Anushka Sharma was caught using an iPhone to tweet about her endorsed brand Google Pixel 2 XL.
Whatever may be the case, Robert Downey Jr. happened to take down the post, when the eagle eyes of users caught this glance, and they started to take screenshots and make them viral.
One person to Own up to the goof-up:
Unlike other brand ambassadors, Robert Downey Jr. is one of the very few people, who own up to the goof up. He later tweeted that he needs to upgrade his assistant to a new OnePlus 7 Pro so this mistake doesn’t happen again.
What he meant was, that it was the assumption of the public that Robert Downey Jr. would have posted for OnePlus 7 on his Weibo account. But it was his assistant who made the post with his Huawei P30 Pro. It was a sincere mistake, and he says it is time for him to upgrade his assistant to OnePlus 7 Pro, so the mistake never repeats itself.
