These Indian Brands That You Thought Were Actually Foreign Brands! Think Again!

Some people have a different love for wearing foreign brands and for some wearing a foreign brand tops the bucket list. Not to mention that people nowadays love bragging about brands.

This has brought a lot of change in marketing as many Indian brands have focussed to bring a foreign brand touch in their products to such a level that even we are unaware of the fact that they are actually Indian brands. Starting from their names to westernization and adapting to high society reflections on the products has led to such a mislead.

But here we are to surprise you by naming some of the brands that you thought were actually foreign but that’s just an illusion. They are Domestic brands. Are you ready?

1. American Swan

What’s in a name? Not necessary having America in a name can actually make you a foreign brand. Let’s face the reality! This online shopping site is actually having headquarters at Gurugram. The name is so because it’s owned by The American Swan Lifestyle and the products are inspired by the American history and culture.

2. AND Designs

Founded by a person who has her roots in Jaipur, this surely can’t be an international brand. Anita Dongre’s And Designs brand is inspired by global outlook in western wears. She also recently took an initiative to help India’s Handicraft art to come out through her designs in a unique way. Forbes India, Fortune India, Business Today and Blackbook Magazine count her among their ’50 Most Powerful Women in Business’ lists.

3. La Opala

Wait! what? The ads showcasing the high profile international designs for a perfect dinner is too misleading to think it’s a domestic brand actually. Though the name comes from a French origin, the roots are desi specifically in Kolkata.

4. Britannia

It was established back in 1892 and biscuits were manufactured in a small house in central Kolkata. Later an English Businessman named C.H. Holmes, became a partner and The Britannia Biscuit Company Limited (BBCo) was launched. Now it’s one of the leading food and biscuit manufacturing brands in India.

5. Peter England

One of the largest brands in India. The name and the clothing line would deceive anyone to think it’s not an Indian brand. It is part of Madura Fashion & Lifestyle, a division of Aditya Birla Nuvo Ltd.

6. Allen Solly

Another must-have wardrobe common name among Indians. Yet another surprise! Allen Solly is not a foreign brand. It’s also an initiative of Madura Fashion & Lifestyle, a division of Aditya Birla Fashion.

7. Monte Carlo

This unisex clothing brand is mostly known for their sweaters. It’s just an Italian brand name having an Indian root. This is a Ludhiana based company which has 100% Indian woven material.

8. East India Company

It’s actually run by Bombay-born Sanjiv Mehta. Though the name has got a British touch to it, it’s roots are from India. It sells high-end luxury goods and is highly growing each day.
