Netflix is facing an investigation in India over alleged tax evasion, racial discrimination, visa violations, and other practices of the business.
As per media reports, an email was sent by a home ministry official to Nandini Mehta, former Director of Business and Legal Affairs for India of Netflix. Mehta left the company in 2020.
In the email sent by an official of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), visa, tax violations, and other concerns relating to the practice of the OTT giant in India were raised.
A probe was launched in July 2024 into the matter. Meanwhile, reports further stated that Netflix has denied having any idea about such an investigation. However, the streaming platform has been asked to respond to criticism of its content.
