Unilever Asia Chair & Singapore Hub Head Samir Singh Calls Its Quits After 27 Years

Samir Singh, who has been a part of Unilever for the past more than two-and-a-half decades, has now decided to part ways from the company. For the last two years, he was serving the role of Chair at Unilever Asia and Head- Unilever Singapore Hub.

He took to LinkedIn to announce his departure from Unilever.

In his departing post, he mentioned, “We tend to remember our careers and life as a series of big events, the highs and the lows. But I would argue that life truly happens in the nooks and crannies, the ebb and flow of daily existence. What kept me at Unilever and Hindustan Unilever for such a long time, beyond the diversity of roles and locations, beyond the successes and failures, are the small and often overlooked joys of this everyday existence. To me this is ‘culture’, far more powerful than grand statements of vision and purpose.”

“When the culture and values of an organisation are congruent with yours, it is possible to do well in business, disrupt the status quo, face many setbacks, AND still totally enjoy the everyday “work” of getting there. With teams and colleagues who love to win together. And also sometimes fail together, but live to fight another day. And have fun along the way. Happy warriors! It’s these teams and relationships that I value the most from my time in Unilever,” he added.

Singh began his career at Unilever by joining Hindustan Unilever in the capacity of Area Sales Manager in 1998. It was after three years of his joining that he got promoted to the role of Senior Brand Manager- Skin Care at HUL in 2001.

From 2003 to 2005, he served the role of Regional Brand Manager for South Asia and the Middle East at Unilever and till 2006, he moved up the ladder to serve the role of Regional Marketing Director- South East Asia and Middle East.

Later on, he advanced to the role of Global Marketing Director– Skin Care and worked on Pond’s from 2006 to 2008 and then assumed the role of Global Brand Director-Vaseline in August 2008.

In July 2010, Singh was appointed Global Brand Vice President at Unilever and led Lifebuoy for a period of over four years, till September 2014.

In October 2014, he became Executive Director– Personal Care at HUL and headed the company’s personal care business which includes brands such as Skin Care, Hair Care, Skin Cleansing, Oral Care, Deodorants, Lakme Colours, Lakme Salons and Tigi.

From April 2016 to November 2020, he served the role of Global EVP Skin Cleansing Business which included brands like Lux, Lifebuoy, Dove and Dove Men cleansing, Axe personal wash, Baby Dove, Zwitsal, Pears and Radox.

In November 2020, he advanced the role of EVP- Global Skin Cleansing and Oral Care and then went on to become the CMO of Unilever’s Personal Care Business in April 2022.

For the last two years, he was associated with the company as Chair, Unilever Asia and Head- Unilever Singapore Hub.
