7 New Digital Movies & Shows Releases To Watch This Weekend

| Published on May 1, 2020

It’s been more than a month since the lockdown was implemented due to the coronavirus outbreak in India. With the numbers having crossed 30,000 and the major Tier I and Tier II cities regarded as contamination zones, it becomes increasingly difficult to pass time at home when you don’t have work.

Hence, we have come up with a list of brand new shows and movies that you can watch this weekend. Major OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+Hotstar have launched some brand new content in the past few days and continue to build a powerhouse of great things to watch for the audience, earning all the viewership online. Some of these must-watch shows and movies are mentioned as follows.

Mrs. Serial Killer

Featuring Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandes, the story follows a doctor’s heinous and shocking trail of murders. As Fernandes stars as his wife, she creates copycat murders along the way to prove her husband’s innocence. The movie is available to stream on Netflix and was released, just today! Fresh content, available now to stream!

Thappad

Actress Taapsee Pannu’s February release called ‘Thappad’ is a slap in the face of the Indian society for their mainstream thinking of it is alright to hit women. Even if the slap was not intended, or directed out of anger, a slap can be the cause of a much deeper rooted, male chauvinistic parenting. Watch the movie to know how Pannu portrays the character of Amrita and files for divorce against her husband over a slap, and how everyone around her tells her not to overreact. The tale will bring to mind the usual narrative of most Indian households and their attitude to physical violence against women.  Released today and available to stream on Amazon Prime.

Love Aaj Kal 2

Recreating actor Saif Ali Khan’s magic in the prequel ‘Love Aaj Kaal’, this remake featuring his daughter actress Sara Ali Khan and actor Karthik Aryan shows the same story, with a more progressive and future-oriented approach. It is for you to decide whether this movie trumps the original or not. Released today and available to watch only on Netflix.

Homeland Season 8

This thriller series finally comes to an end with the recent launch of its last season. Homeland’s season 8 will have only 12 episodes with every episode releasing on a month. Catch this ongoing series today on Disney+Hotstar.

Upload

Coming as a brand new version of Netflix’s ‘The Good Place’, this show is a new SciFi take on how humans can upload a new version of themselves, according to their liking in the afterlife. The story feels how the protagonist meets a woman named Nora who guides him through it all. Available to stream on Amazon Prime.

Extraction

Written by Marvels’ Joe Russo, Extraction is an American action thriller starring actor Chris Hemsworth. It follows a rescue mission conducted by an Australian mercenary played by Hemsworth and also stars Indian child actor Rudraksh Jaiswal. The movie’s ending is what will make you question its plot (Oops! Spoiler alert, or was it?). Watch it now on Netflix!

Never Have I Ever

A story about how an Indian adjusts herself abroad always has its ups and downs, especially for the teenager in ‘Never Have I Ever’. Inspired by actress Mindy Kaling’s childhood years, you will love watching this show because it hits so close to home. Now available to watch on Netflix.

We’re so excited to see what else gets released in May 2020!
