5 Indian Movies To Cross Rs 1000 Crore Mark Globally So Far

The Indian Film Industry has been through a roller coaster ride in the past couple of years. The industry has been receiving a lot of flack for not coming up with smarter topics and for lack of originality. This was subsequently seen with a boom in regional movies, especially southern cinema.

But with the recent release of ‘Pathaan,’ a lot of speculations about the industry’s position and the question regarding the loyalty of its fans have been put to rest.

Soon after the release, Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham starrer ‘Pathaan‘ which was all the buzz globally. The movie broke all records on its release and has one of the biggest hits of the year so far.

While there are many movies that have made it to the Rs 100 & Rs 200 crore club, only a handful have crossed the Rs 1000 crore threshold, and ‘Pathaan’ is one of them.

Here are the 5 Indian movies that crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark globally as per Business Insider.

1. Pathaan

The Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham starrer, ‘Pathaan‘, grossed Rs 1000 crores worldwide becoming the fifth Indian film to cross this mark. Out of this, Rs 623 crore was in India alone and Rs 377 crore internationally.

2. Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion

S. S. Rajamouli‘s Baahubali, which was a sensational hit in 2015 garnered a lot of appreciation and became a breakthrough in bringing southern cinema to the global pedestal. The sequel, Baahubali 2 – The Conclusion, was an even bigger hit and was the first Indian movie to gross Rs 1000 crores worldwide in just 10 days.

3. Dangal

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari starring Amir Khan, Dangal has been one of the most applauded sports drama movies ever. The movie was inspired by the lives of Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat. Dangal was the second Indian film to cross the Rs 1000 crores benchmark globally

4. KGF 2

Super Star Yash’s KGF Chapter 2 is yet another marvel from the southern cinema that has everyone fixated on the upcoming releases. It has been termed the highest-grossing Kannada film to date.

5. RRR

S. S. Rajamouli’s multi-starrer ‘RRR‘ was one of the most anticipated movies ever. Starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, the movie was declared a super hit way before its release. The movie crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark in just over two weeks of its release.
