Marketing and advertisements can change the thinking of society in a big way. Many brands try to connect with the audience by presenting something that can make a place in the viewer’s mind. India has been facing the issue of inequality on the basis of religion, caste, and gender. Below are some marketing campaigns that tried breaking gender stereotypes in Indian society.

1. Share The Load: Ariel

This Ariel ad showed a father who wonders how much hard work his daughter does and tries to help the family in laundry work. The idea of sharing the load was a perfect way to show that doing household work is not only a lady’s duty.

2. Change is beautiful: Biba

Biba Apparels is an Indian fashion brand founded by Meena Bindra in 1988. This marketing campaign had series of videos showing what needs to change in our society. Biba tried to touch the importance of marriage in a girl’s life and shoed that every girl has the right to know her soulmate before thinking about spending the life with him.

3. Best at work: Tanishq

Tanishq tried to celebrate the strong, passionate, driven, ambitious working women of India. The mindset of Indian people for women who work as professionals are targeted in this by showing the success of women in every field.

4. Nayi soch: Star Plus

‘Nayi Soch’ tried breaking the conventional ways people think about women. They used famous personalities like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Ajinkya Rahane to have the maximum impact. Mothers are worshipped in India yet there are cases of not letting a girl-child to come in this beautiful world. Some of the Indian cricketers were seen wearing Indian team t-shirts with their mother’s name on the back.

5. Her life her choices: Titan Raga

Titan Raga used this ad campaign for celebrating the ‘woman of today’. This advertisement tried to convey the message that every woman is capable of making right choices for her life and taking your own decisions isn’t a bad thing to do for anyone in the society.
