Using A Plant As A Metaphor; Anand Mahindra Has A Lesson For Sinking Businesses

| Published on December 20, 2022

For the uninitiated, the Selaginella lepidophylla is a Chihuahuan desert native plant, that grows to a maximum height of 5 cm. The stems of this plant coil naturally in a dry environment, and in within a short period of aridity, its outer stems twist into circular rings.

This very plant blooms fully when it comes in contact with moisture. It is as if the plant comes to life. But then, why are we discussing this plant? Why is it garnering attention?

The Twitter handle of ‘Wonder of Science’, recently shared a video of the same. And this caught the eye of ace businessman Anand Mahindra.

The video shows the dried plant in the shape of a ball getting rejuvenated and opening up its curls after deriving moisture from water. It quickly unfurls and greenish leaves can be seen.

The head honcho of Mahindra & Mahindra shared an interesting take on the same. Retweeting this post, he encouraged all those businesses that were on the brink of dying down, to have hope and re-emerge just like the plant does.

According to him, businesses should incorporate resilience to survive any economic drought.

We all couldn’t agree more with this. And a lot of Twitter users too have been praising Anand Mahindra’s line of thought.

Anand Mahindra’s ability to see outstanding lessons in simple ways of life has always encouraged and motivated many. And this time too, he conveyed a poignant message for businesses to not give up and believing in the power of restoration after a downfall.
