Chris Messina, the man who created the hashtag has apparently left Twitter.

The creator of hashtags, Chris Messina, resigned from Twitter. After the success of hashtag on Twitter, other social media giants like Facebook and Instagram were also quick to make the full use of this.

Invention Of Hashtag

In approximately 15 years, hashtags moved from being a helpful tool recognised in programmer culture to a widespread organisational method for online stuff.

A hashtag is created on Twitter by appending a “#” to the beginning of an unbroken word or phrase. Hashtag offers your Tweet context and makes it simple for readers to follow subjects that interest them.

In 2007, Messina proposed the concept of hashtags, which enabled users to look for subjects by using the hash sign (#). On a number of social media sites, including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, the action gained tremendous popularity.

The hashtag facilitates quick subject searches for users and aids in extending the reach of posts. Trending hashtags are now shown in real-time in a separate section on Twitter.

Hashtags no longer excites Musk.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, has made it quite obvious that he despises hashtags. Musk posted a tweet in response to an image that had a tweet from ChatGPT about SpaceX. The message contained hashtags, and Musk’s response implied that he doesn’t use hashtags.

Following his statement, many users are already speculating as to whether Musk would soon ban hashtags from Twitter.
