Google Introduces ‘Multisearch’ Feature That Lets You Use Text & Image For Better Search Results

| Published on April 11, 2022

Google has been making improvements to its tech regularly to make the user experience satisfactory for people all around. To improve the most relevant search experience, Google has now introduced ‘Multisearch’ on its platform that allows people to use text and images at the same time.

Currently, the feature is available as a beta version in English in the US. Google Search’s vice president Liz Reid told CNN that the feature is currently considered experimental and is restricted to shopping-related searches as of now.

Multisearch allows people to search with both images and text at the same time which helps them with their visual needs, including style and home decor questions.

With the introduction of Multisearch, Google is no longer dependant on words alone. Now, Google Lens will help you find a product immediately through your phone’s camera lens.

Google stated that with multisearch, one can ask a question about an object in front of you or refine your search by colour, brand or a visual attribute.

Google credited the invention to the latest advancements in Artificial Intelligence, which is making it easier to understand the world around you in more natural and intuitive ways.

The tech giant also stated that they are exploring ways in which this feature might be enhanced by MUM(multitask unified model), which is their latest AI model in Search, to improve results for all the questions you could imagine asking.

In 2020, Google allowed users to hum when they’re searching for specific songs. The Multisearch is a new addition to the firms efforts at improving customer experience.

Tech Crunch explains that the new feature can prove useful for the type of queries that Google currently has trouble with. This is usually where there’s a visual component to what you’re looking for that is hard to describe using words alone. By combining the image and the words into one query, Google may have a better shot at delivering relevant search results.
