Madras High Court Restrains ‘Bro Code’ Maker From Trademark Threats Against Actor Ravi Mohan’s Film

The Madras High Court has issued a temporary injunction restraining beverage manufacturer Indobevs, which produces the alcoholic drink ‘Bro Code’, from making trademark infringement threats against actor Ravi Mohan’s production company over his upcoming movie titled Bro Code. The order has been passed by Justice V. Lakshminarayan in response to a plea filed by Mohan’s company.

As per media reports, the court has observed that there exists a prima facie case for granting an interim injunction. Justice Lakshminarayan has directed that the injunction remain in force for three weeks, subject to compliance with the requirements under Order XXXIX of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908. The court has also issued a notice to the beverage company, clarifying that if the notice is not served, the interim order will not be extended beyond the stipulated period.

Ravi Mohan has approached the court seeking a declaration that the use of the title Bro Code for his upcoming action-comedy film does not infringe upon Indobevs’ trademark. He has also sought a permanent injunction to restrain the company from issuing or making groundless threats of infringement, or otherwise interfering with the film’s production, publicity, and marketing.

In his plea, Mohan has stated that the teaser for Bro Code, released on August 27, 2025, has garnered over 11 million views. He further submitted that Indobevs had cautioned the production company against using the title, claiming rights over the mark and citing their application for its copyright. The court, upon reviewing the submissions, has been satisfied with the prima facie case and accordingly granted the interim injunction in Mohan’s favour.
